The Rebirth of the Itata Valley

La Causa

The primary motive behind this project is our cause: coming to the rescue of age-old varieties that were originally in the Itata Valley, learning from the people who grow them and introducing new winemaking techniques to get the best of these vines while working together

The Valley

Location

The valley covers one of the largest areas in southern Chile, the province of Ñuble (Bío Bío Region) and Concepción, a city formerly known as Puchacai province (place between bushes) in Mapudungun.

The Timeline

1540

Introduction of the first País grapes

The Jesuit priest Francisco de Carabantes brought the first cuttings of the País variety from Peru. In 1551, Pedro de Valdivia asked Rodrigo de Araya to plant the first vineyards in Ránquil, in the Bío Bío Region, marking the birth of Chile's wine history.

The People

Throughout history, the winegrowers of the Itata Valley have seen moments of glory and misfortune. The vineyards in this corner of Chile are an ancestral legacy that has survived over time thanks to the dedication and courage of its people: the winegrowers. Humble, hard-working people who feel a deep connection and love for the land and its traditions.

Tasting Notes

Bright yellow color with golden tints. Aromatic explosion that shows flowers and citrics. Very fresh in the palate, due to its acidity, with great structure and silkiness because of the fermentation on skins and the ageing on its lees.
